Do., 05.03.2009 - Ost POL
Underwater Sleeping Society (FIN) Ost POL am Donnerstag den 05.03.2009 ”Underwater-indie-progressive-folk-art-punk-pop-manatees making waves”, the singer Okko Nieminen explains, when asked to define the style of music they make. Underwater Sleeping Society is definitely one of the most interesting things to come out of Finland. The rich and aerial sound the band delivers is a rare exception in the line of post-Radiohead bands today.“I make most of the songs, the guys fill up the space and as we all have different influences, together we make a soup where you can taste the ingredients in, but it´s hard to tell where it came from”, Okko states.
The band is ready to release their third album The Dead Vegas, their most ambitious work so far. The album is mixed by Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. “Kalle and Fred added an extra 25% to the album. Now totaling at 125%, it´s a piece of work that can be marketed anywhere”, Okko smiles.
The Helsinki-based band already caused a buzz last year with their previous album All Other Lights Go Out charting at 13 on the Finnish album chart, which is quite unheard of in the genre. “It´s all about the music and not the marketing budget”, Okko says and continues “We like to play live a lot as that´s where you get the immediate response”. With its orchestral mix of anthems and a twist of 2000´s psychedelia, Underwater Sleeping Society could easily find a place as ”the” indie band from Finland. | | Eintritt: 4.00 € Beginn: 22:00 Uhr Location: Ost POL Adresse: Königsbrücker Straße 47, 01099 Dresden
